Srinagar/IBNS: The killing of a Kashmiri Pandit in the Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir has triggered protests from the community against the central government and its ruler Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the valley, media reports said.

Rahul Bhat, 36, was killed by the terrorists who had barged into the Tehsildar's office at Chadoora village last evening.

Bhat, who is the third Kashmiri Pandit to be killed in six months' time, was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Centre and the BJP, which have always demanded the rehabilition and justice of the Kashmiri Pandits who had to face genocide and eviction back in 1990s, are facing an unprecedented protest from the community, who are demanding "safety".

"We are here to work, we have nothing to do with anything else. Why are they killing us? Just tell us what is our crime? The administration has failed," a protester says as reported by NDTV.

In a bid to control the situation, police fired teargas shells to disperse a group of Kashmiri Pandits who were marching towards the Srinagar airport.

The protesters were heard raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

On the some occasions, local Muslim people were also seen joining the protests and demanding justice.

The targeted killings in the esrtwhile state started in October last year.

Bhat used to work under a special package of rehabilitation in Budgam for the last 10 years.
