New Delhi, Apr 5 (IBNS) The father of Abdul Wahid, who slapped Arvind Kejriwal, said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo has forgiven his son.

Mohammad Zakir Hussein told CNN-IBN: "I am deeply ashamed. I am deeply moved by the fact that Arvindji has forgiven my son. I am grateful to him. I will do what I can do for his party."

He said Wahid was in bad company that made him do such a thing.

"I feel some party might have given him some money. Rs 1000, 2000, 5000 because our condition is so bad. He was also addicted. ...  I try to guide him. But his company is bad which is why he has shamed us today," said Hussein.

Wahid was arrested after he allegedly slapped the former Delhi Chief Minister while Kejriwal was campaigning for his party on Friday in Dakshinpuri area of South Delhi, said reports.

The attacker was a resident of Batla House area in Jamia Nagar.

Kejriwal was allegedly slapped and punched on back by Wahid while he was travelling in an open jeep during a roadshow.

According to reports, the attacker was immediately thrashed by AAP volunteers while Kejriwal was taken away to safety.

The AAP workers said he was paid Rs 25,000 for attacking Kejriwal.

In November last year, a chaos broke out at the press conference of the AAP in New Delhi with black ink being thrown at Kejriwal by a man named Nachiketa.

He claimed himself to be a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist.
