Kolhapur administration on toes after two test positive for COVID-19 in Pune

Kolhapur/UNI: After a Pune couple tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), a first in Maharashtra, Collector Daulat Desai here on Tuesday held a review meeting with top district officials to chalk out an action plan for combating the deadly pandemic.

Talking to mediapersons, Collector Desai stated that in the hurriedly called meet, he has instructed the officials to lay a roadmap for preventing the spread of the viral infection in this district.

Briefing about the preparedness against the disease, he apprised that a total of 48 beds in isolation wards have been made available across the city.

He said that the Chhatrapati Pramila Raje Hospital has 20 beds, civic hospital and Aster Aadhar Hospital have 10 beds each while four beds each are available at IGM and Gadhinglaj Hospitals.

He apprised that a total of 16 people have returned from the Coronavirus hotspot countries till Feb 2, and added that nine persons have completed 14 days observation period while the remaining seven are still under screening.

Western Maharashtra Devasthan Committee (WMDC), which manages the Mahalaxmi temple, announced that it has taken required preventive steps as more than 15,000 devotees visit the temple daily.

WMDC Mahesh Jadhav President said that the Coronavirus scare has gripped the devotees as many of them have postponed their visit.

In a bid to care for hygiene of the visitors, he further said, the Committee will give hand sanitizers to them, and added that around one lakh pamphlets, containing information and precautions regarding the disease, have been distributed.
