Kolkata, July 12 (IBNS): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday raided at least five premises of Pailan Group in Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal in connection with its ongoing probe into a chit fund scam, officials said.

According to reports, besides the house of Pailan Group's founder-chairman Apurba Saha in Kolkata's Ballygunge Park, four offices of the alleged chit fund company in Bankura and South 24 Parganas' Pailan, Sonarpur and Santoshpur areas were also searched by the central probe agency.

A CBI official said that several important documents were seized during the raids.

"Besides quizzing several employees of the company, we seized a large number of documents during the hour-long raids," a senior official of CBI told IBNS.

"We have found few names involved with the company, which reportedly collected approximately 900 crore rupees illegally from the market and invested those money in its several businesses," the official added. " Those persons will be called for interrogation soon."

Founder-chairman of Pailan Group, Apurba Saha, has gone absconding since agents of the deposit-taking group lodged complaint with the police in 2014.
