Kolkata: Congress holds rally against price rise and post poll violence
Senior Congress leaders, including WBPCC president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Bengal assembly's oppositions leader Abdul Mannan, party's MLA Manas Bhunia, Congress leaders Pradip Bhattacharya and Dipa Dasmunsi, and a large number of party activists joined the rally here.
The rally started from Moulali and concluded in Kolkata's downtown Esplanade area.
Congress's election-ally Left parties were also invited in the march.
Following the CPI-M Central Committee's decision to discontinue the understanding-based-alliance with WBPCC and a huge objection from Left Front partners, CPI-M on Friday announced that no leader of the party would join the rally.
However, CPI-M MLA Tanmoy Bhattacharya joined Congress's rally and said, "Respecting peoples' mandate, I'm here in the rally. We and Congress will fight together inside and outside the assembly."
Talking about the future of Left-Cong alliance, Adhir Chowdhury said, "Future of the alliance is alliance. Left has not left us."
Earlier on Wednesday, Kolkata unit of Left Front hosted a protest march on the same issue, where Congress was not invited.
