Kolkata court rejects actor Vikram Chatterjee's discharge plea in model Sonika Chauhan's death case
Kolkata, Oct 9 (IBNS): Bengali actor Vikram Chatterjee's petition, appealing for a relief from model and TV host Sonika Singh Chauhan's accidental death case, was rejected by a local court in Kolkata's Alipore on Tuesday, reports said.
Counsel for Vikram Chatterjee pleaded to the court to grant the young actor a relief as no proof of 'drink-and-drive' was found against him and that the accident was completely unintentional.
Rejecting the petition, the Alipore court said that there was enough evidences to frame charges against Vikram Chatterjee in the case.
The court, however, has set Dec 3 as the next date of hearing in the case and charges will be framed against the actor on that day.
Lawyers, representing Sonika's family, welcomed the court's order while Vikram Chatterjee's counsel said that they will move to the Calcutta High Court against it.
Earlier on Apr 29 midnight last year, Vikram Chatterjee's speeding car crashed into a pavement's guardrail near Lake Mall in south Kolkata's Rashbehari Avenue.
Vikram Chatterjee, who was driving the car at a speed of around 104 kmph at the time of crash, was seriously injured in the mishap when the car's passenger, Vikram's friend model Sonika Chauhan, died on the spot.
After beginning probe into the matter, city police had arrested Vikram Chatterjee on charges of 'drink-and-drive' and 'reckless driving', and currently, the actor is out on a conditional bail.
