Kolkata: Fire guts Ballygunge Science College's laboratory, no casualty reported
The fire was first seen at around 6 pm inside a laboratory when few students were working there.
After being informed, as many as 14 fire tender engines, police and Disaster Management Group (DMG) rushed to the spot and firefighters fought for nearly two hours to bring the blaze under control.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident. But the laboratory has been gutted completely.
Fire department has started investigation into the matter to know the exact reason behind the fire.
Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Calcutta University, Sugata Marjit visited the campus later and assured to provide financial compensation to the college.
However, Sugata Marjit said that Ballygunge Science College will be closed on Tuesday and classes will be started there on Mar 28, after the Holi vacation.
