Kolkata: SFI-DYFI hold rally over alleged police strip search
Starting from College Square, the rally concluded at city's downtown Esplanade area.
Days earlier, SFI and DYFI held a rally over alleged irregularities in primary teachers recruitment (TET) in the state and when party activists were staging demonstration at Esplanade, they engaged in scuffle with the police force.
Police arrested more than 100 agitators from the spot and when the booked activists were produced in a local court, 96 of them were granted bail.
Remaining eight leader-activists of SFI and DYFI were sent to judicial custody as police slapped several non-bailable charges on them.
Four women supporters of the total eight claimed that during routine checks at Alipore jail, a woman cop forced them to strip naked in a room.
"We will never support such behaviour from the jail guards and our party is planning to move to the court against such dirty practice of police in the modern days," a SFI leader told IBNS.
However, state minister of Correctional Administration, Abani Mohan Joarder, told IBNS: "I don't have any idea about the incident and as per my knowledge none is forced to strip naked at any correctional home in West Bengal during routine checks."
