Lakhimpur Kheri violence: After SC's rebuke, 2 arrested, minister Ajay Mishra's son untraceable

Lakhimpur Kheri/IBNS: Four days after UP's Lakhimpur Kheri incident where a minister's car allegedly rammed into a group of protesters, the UP police arrested two persons identified as Luvkush Rana and Ashish Pandey, according to media reports.

However, Union minister of state Ajay Mishra Teni's son Ashish Mishra, who was allegedly driving the car, is still untraceable, according to a Hindustan Times report.

Police said the two arrested are close aides of Asish and more raids are going on, the report stated.

The arrests come hours after the Supreme Court on Thursday directed the UP government to submit a report within a day on how many arrests have been made so far in connection with the case.

"In the status report also tell us about the eight persons who have been killed. Farmers, journalist etc. It is an unfortunate incident. Tell us whom you registered FIR against. How many have you arrested," the court questioned the government as quoted by NDTV.

A petition was filed seeking action in the killing of the farmers in Lakhimpur.

Eight people including four farmers died during a violence which broke out in Tikunia village in Uttar Pradesh's Lakhimpur Kheri between the agitators and individuals belonging to the convoy of Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra Sunday.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against Ashish in connection with the incident.

However, a new video of the incident indicates that three cars were involved in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence and those cars were not under any attack.

The first car drove into a group of protesters, who were walking with flags, at an unexpectedly high speed, followed by the two other cars.
