Languages should help build bridges of understanding: Vice President

Hyderabad, Nov 19 (IBNS): Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that language can help good governance because information and knowledge can create an enlightened citizenry. 

He was addressing the 16th Annual Convocation of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Deputy Chief Minister of Telangana Mohammad Mahmood Ali, Vice President of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Chennai, H. Hanumantappa, President of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana B. Obaiah and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

The Vice President said that Hindi has played a historic role in the development of India's unity, integrity and linguistic goodwill.

"For the unification of the nation there is no element more powerful than the language spoken by most of Indians," he added.

The Vice President said that in the year 1936, the office of Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha was established in Vijaywada and as the Presidents of this Sabha, freedom fighters such as Shri Konda Venkapapayya Pantulu, Andhra Kesari Shri Tungturi Prakasham Pantulu, Shri Bejawada Gopalreddy, Swami Ramanand Tirtha did a great work.

"It is heartening to know that Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha has not only promoted Hindi but also prepared a large number of Hindi teachers, translators and publicists," he added.

Naidu said that the Dakshina Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha of Andhra and Telangana is celebrating its 16th Annual Convocation and he reminded the audience of Gandhiji's view that no country is independent in the true sense, until and unless it speaks in its own language.

The Vice President congratulated all the students who received the degrees of Rashtra Bhasha Visharad and Rashtra Bhasha Praveen in Hindi.
