LK Advani visits AIIMS to enquire about Arun Jaitley's health

New Delhi, Aug 19 (UNI) Veteran BJP leader LK Advani on Monday visited AIIMS, to enquire about the health of former finance minister and senior party leader Arun Jaitley whose condition continues to be critical.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, Union Ministers--Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Thawar Chand Gehlot and BJP national general-secretary Arun Singh also visited AIIMS today, to enquire about the health of the former finance minister.

'The condition of Jaitley continues to be critical,' sources said.

The sources said the former finance minister is on Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support.

The 66-year old BJP leader was admitted to AIIMS on August 9, after he complained of breathlessness, weakness and restlessness.

The senior BJP leader is undergoing treatment at AIIMS, under a team of multidisciplinary doctors, comprising nephrologists, cardiologists and endocrinologists.

In view of Jaitley's health condition and top political leaders' visit, the security in and around the AIIMS has been tightened, sources said.

Last evening, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited AIIMS, to enquire about the health of Jaitley.

Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and Cricketer-turned-politician and MP Gautam Gambhir also visited AIIMS on Sunday evening, to enquire about the health of the former finance minister.

Earlier on Sunday, many political leaders including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief

Minister Manish Sisodia and Union Ministers--Smriti Irani and Ram Vilas Paswan and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Ashwini Choubey visited AIIMS, to enquire about ex-union minister's health.

RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat was also one of the visitors.

Leaders of various political parties visited AIIMS on Saturday to enquire about Jaitley's health. Among them were Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Congress leaders Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited AIIMS late on Friday night.

President Ram Nath Kovind, the Union Home Minister, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visited AIIMS on Friday to inquire about the health condition of the former minister.

Dr Vardhan and Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey were present during the visit of President.

Jaitley had undergone a renal transplant last year and Railways Minister Piyush Goyal handled the portfolio of Finance for sometime.

Due to his ill health,Jaitley could not present the last budget of the Modi government's first term in February and the task was passed on to Mr Goyal.
