LoC: Army jawan killed in Pakistan firing
Jammu, May 19 (IBNS) In a fresh incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistan, an Indian Army man was killed and two others were injured when they went to rescue a colleague hurt in a landmine blast at the Pallanwalla sector in Jammu and Kashmir near the Line of Control (LoC).
This is the first major incident of firing by Pakistani troops at the LoC after the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.
The Army said on Sunday evening Havaldar Vinod Kumar, part of the Engineer Regiment, was injured while planting landmines on the Indian side at the Pallanwalla sector near the LoC.
When a Maratha Light Infantry patrol team went to rescue him, Pakistani troops opened fire and wounded three soldiers. One of them later succumbed to his injuries.
Defence sources said there have been several infiltration bids this month from the Pakistan side along the LoC.
On May 10, two militants were killed in the Poonch sector, where infiltrators had tried to enter earlier on May 3.
