Locals of a remote village in Mizoram finally see a DC for first time, give him a palanquin ride
Guwahati, Aug 28 (IBNS): Finally, a Deputy Commissioner (DC) have reached a remote village in Mizoram and no surprise that the villagers welcomed him heartwarming.
Mizoram’s Siaha district Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bhupesh Chaudhary is the first DC who visited Tisopi village – a remote village in Mizoram, around 400-km from Mizoram’s capital city Aizawl.
As soon as the Deputy Commissioner of Siaha district reached the village after trekking a 15-km-long distance in hill area on a rainy day.
The villagers carried him on a makeshift palanquin and walked a distance about a kilometre.
On Aug 23 last, Siaha district DC Bhupesh Choudhury and his team had visited the remote village to review the PMGSY project and other projects.
Tisopi – one of the very remote village in Mizoram with a population of around 400. Most of them are in farming sector.
“They were very happy to see us in their village. No collector has ever visited them. When we reached at the entry point of the village after trekked almost 15-km-long distance, I was completely overwhemlemed with the warm reception received from the people of Tisopi. Local MTP youth carried me in a palanquin for about a kilometre and showered me with great love and affection. It was truly an honour which can't be explained in words,” Bhupesh Chaudhary said.
In Mizoram, when someone is carried on a palanquin in hilly areas, it means he or she is being given special honour.
The Siaha district Deputy Commissioner further said that, connectivity remains the biggest hurdle.
Currently, Tisopi is accessible only from Lawngtlai district with a journey time of about 3 hours. The new proposed road under PMGSY will reduce the travel time to just 30 minutes.
The Deputy Commissiner had also visited the Tisopi turmeric processing centre which won the Prime Minister award under PMKSY.
“But the condition is not good here either. The Prime Minister award did not bring any tangible benefit to the SHG involved. The SHG was also demotivated. The Anganwadi Centre in Tisopi needs improvement and need of basic infrastructure. Nutrition gardens have been proposed for this Anganwadi Centre,” Bhupesh Chaudhary said.
