Lok Sabha Poll 2019: EC dismisses nomination of SP’s Varanasi candidate Tej Bahadur Yadav

New Delhi, May 1 (IBNS): The Election Commission on Wednesday rejected the nomination of Samajwadi Party's Lok Sabha election candidate from Varanasi Tej Bahadur Yadav, reports said.

As per News 18, the statement issued by the Returning Officer of Varanasi, Surendra Singh, read, “A certificate issued by the Election Commission to the effect that a person having held office under the Government of India or under the Government of a State, has or has not been dismissed for corruption or for disloyalty to the State shall be conclusive proof of the fact: Provided that no certificate to the effect that a person has been dismissed for corruption or for disloyalty to the State shall be issued unless an opportunity of being heard has been given to the said person.” 

The former BSF security personnel said his nomination paper was dismissed in a 'wrong manner'.

"My nomination has been rejected in a wrong manner," he told reporters.

He was quoted as saying by News 18: "I was asked to produce the evidence at 6.15pm yesterday (Tuesday). We have been told that we did not produce the evidence before 11am as asked, whereas we did submit the same. My nomination was still rejected. We will go to the Supreme Court.” 

Yadav was asked by the poll body to produce a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Border Security Force (BSF). 

He was directed to file the response by 11 am on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an MP from the Varanasi seat. He won the contest from Varanasi in 2014.

He will once again fight from the seat this year.

Yadav was reportedly sacked from service when he had posted a video on the social media where he complained about the bad quality food being served to the forces. BSF, however, denied the allegation.
