Lok Sabha polls: West Bengal official issues arbitrary order prohibiting media from going close to polling booth with camera

Kolkata, Apr 27 (IBNS): As West Bengal is gearing up for the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha polls, District Magistrate of Murshidabad P Ulaganathan has issued an arbitrary order prohibiting media from going close to polling booth with camera, boom mike, cordless boom, mobile on election date.

DM P Ulaganathan said authorisation of a journalist will be cancelled if he breaks the order.

"The authorization will be cancelled," he told media.

West Bengal has witnessed violence in all the three phases of the polls and resulted in several deaths and injuries.

Lok Sabha Polls is being held in seven phases this time.

Counting of votes will take place on May 23.

Situation in Bengal is currently like what prevailed in Bihar 15 years ago: EC special observer Ajay Nayak


Describing the law and order condition of West Bengal, EC special observer Ajay V Nayak recently said situation in Bengal is like what Bihar used to be 15 years ago and hence more central forces have been deployed in the booths in the state during Lok Sabha polls this time. 

Raiganj: Hindu voters blocked from voting

As per a Times Now report, Hindu voters at a village in Raiganj  alleged that while some were stopped from proceeding towards the polling booth, others claimed that bogus votes in their names had already been cast when they reached the polling station in the morning.

As per details available with Times Now and eyewitness accounts, voters belonging to the Hindu religion were stopped from casting their votes by some Muslim men and their voter identity cards were also taken away.

The  village was reportedly dominated by Muslims.

The voters later told Times Now that they had not been allowed to cast their votes because of the profiling.
