Thane/UNI:  The body of a seven-year-old girl, who was missing since late Saturday night, was found in bushes at Karivali village in Bhiwandi town of the district by the police on Sunday.

The body was spotted this morning in the bushes at Subash Nagar locality just 100 metres away from her house, with her head smashed by a stone.

Upon getting the message, a police team rushed to the spot and sent the body to hospital for post-mortem, police said.

The girl went missing from her house late last night at around 2100 hours and her parents had carried out a frantic search for her.

It was not immediately known whether the girl had been sexually abused by the unidentified killer/s.

The Bhoiwada police have since registered an offence under section 302 of Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
