Maharashtra: ED issues fresh summon to Anil Deshmukh in extortion case

Mumbai/IBNS: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a fresh summon to former home minister of Maharashtra, Anil Deshmukh, and his son Hrishikesh in the corruption-cum-extortion probe, according to media reports.

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader has been asked to appear at the agency’s South Mumbai office on Wednesday. This is the fifth summon issued by the central agency that probes economic offences.

This comes a day after the Supreme Court rejected to grant any interim relief to the former minister and his son.

ED had filed a money laundering case against Deshmukh after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR against him on April 21 following former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh’s allegation that Deshmukh ordered a police official to extort Rs 100 crore a month from Mumbai’s hotel and bars.
