Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra, which was the worst COVID-19 affected state, on Thursday lifted all restrictions which were in place to curb the spread of the virus.

Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray tweeted, "All COVID restrictions in Maharashtra will be lifted, as we bring in the new year this Gudi Padwa!"

This means masks are also not compulsory in the business capital of the country.

State Health Minister Rajesh Tope told reporters that the decision to withdraw all restrictions was taken at a cabinet meeting.

This is the first time all anti-COVID-19 restrictions are lifted in two years' time.
