Thane/UNI: A resident of Bhiwandi was arrested on Thursday by police for alleged torture of his wife and also giving her 'triple talaq'.
An offence under sections 498A, 323 and 504 of Indian Penal Code and also section 4 of The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 has been registered with the Shanti Nagar police today against the two accused (both siblings), police said.
They were identified as Subhan Khan (since arrested) and his sister Husntara Khan, residents of Samrubaugh in Bhiwandi.
The 21-year-old woman was since August 2017 till July 2020 subjected to torture and abuse by her husband and sister-in-law on the ground that the in-laws were not given proper respect, and also demanded money for the purchase of a car.
The brother-sister duo mentally and physically harassed and slapped the victim, the complaint registered with the police said.
The complaint further said that since the husband doubted the character of the woman, he called her up on the night of July 24, 2020, abused her and later gave her oral 'talaq', it added.
