Maharashtra: Municipal Councillors among 5 booked for gangrape

Kolhapur, Jun 8 (UNI) Two Municipal Councillors, who are brothers and three others were booked under the relevant IPC sections on Saturday, for allegedly gangraping a woman, robbing her of gold ornaments worth Rs 50,000, and giving her death threats.

The accused have been identified as Ichalkaranji Muncipal Councillors Sanjay Telnade and Sunil Telnade, Advocate Pavan Kumar Upaddhey, Prashant Hogade and Sadik Mujawar, said police.


According to Gaonbhag Police, the accused were also booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in another case. Hogade was arrested on Saturday, whereas the other offenders were still at large.


Police further said that Hogade was forcibly maintaining sexual relations with the woman and continued the offence, even after she got married in 2008.


In 2017, the five accused gangraped the woman and robbed her of gold ornaments worth Rs 50,000, they added.


Further investigation into the case was underway, said the police.
