Maharashtra: Two held for provoking retired PWD officer to suicide

Kolhapur/UNI: Two people were arrested on Friday for provoking retired Public and Works Department (PWP) officer to commit suicide, police said.

The accused were identified as Sanjivani Avdhoot and Vaibhav Ashok Gherde.

According to police, the victim, Prakash Tayyappa Vadankar (67), a retired PWD officer had taken a loan of Rs one lakh from the accused and paid two lakh against it but the accused were persistently demanding extra money from him.

Fed up of the harassment, Mr Vadankar committed suicide by jumping in Rankala talao on March 4, police said.

A case was registered and further investigation was underway, police added.
