Mamata Banerjee dares Suvendu Adhikari to tackle revolt, LoP says 'you can't scare me'

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has hit out at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who dared the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA to get hold of himself upon facing a revolt from people of a particular religion.

The confrontation originated in Mamata's reply to the Governor's address at the state legislative assembly on Tuesday.

In an excerpt of her speech, Mamata said, "People will give a befitting reply if someone speaks trash. We don't have to do anything. You are constantly passing slanderous remarks and doing propaganda against a particular religion. Will you be able to handle yourself if they revolt?"

In counter, Adhikari posted on X, "WB CM @MamataOfficial, let me tell you that your intimidation tactics won't bear any fruits. The veiled threat that you made yesterday on the floor of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, is nothing but a sinister conspiracy to threaten my safety and security. "

"... You can't scare me. I will keep on fighting democratically till you are dethroned. My fight against your dynastic & appeasement politics and corrupt regime would continue."

The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Tuesday moved a privilege motion against Adhikari, who along with three other BJP MLAs were suspended over their controversial remarks in the assembly.

Adhikari, Agnimitra Paul, Bishwanath Karak and Bankim Ghosh were suspended from the assembly for 30 days by Speaker Biman Bandyopadhyay for allegedly insulting the Chair during the uproar.

The BJP attacked the Mamata Banerjee government claiming Hindu festival Saraswati Puja was not allowed in the state in reference to sporadic incidents in a few colleges.

Painting the Mamata regime as "communal", Adhikari said, "They have suspended us illegally for speaking up against the disrespect towards Maa Saraswati. This is anti-Hindu government."

Meanwhile, Mamata on Tuesday earned more criticism from the BJP after the Chief Minister branded Hindu pilgrimage Maha Kumbh as "Mrityu Kumbh" referring to the deaths of 30 people at the venue in Prayagraj.

She said, "Maha Kumbh has now turned into Mrityu Kumbh. I respect Maha Kumbh and Maa Ganga but your sole hype with no planning led to the loss of so many lives!"

In a sharp response, BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya wrote on X, "Mamata Banerjee’s ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ remark is not just a casual, off-the-cuff comment but a calculated dog whistle aimed at her Muslim vote bank in West Bengal. The underlying message is clear: 'Vote for me, and I will let you turn Bengal into an Islamic Caliphate.'

"Now, it is up to the Hindus of Bengal to decide—do they want to meet the same fate as their brethren in Bangladesh, or will they rise, fight, and defeat Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, just as they obliterated Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, infamously known as the Butcher of Bengal, who orchestrated the Direct Action Day massacres? Let the 2026 Assembly election be the ‘Mrityu Kumbh’ for Mamata Banerjee’s dark regressive politics."
