Mamata Banerjee didn't receive my calls after cyclone Fani, not concerned about Bengal: PM Modi
Tamluk, WB, May 6 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allegedly not receiving calls from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) after cyclone Fani made its landfall in the eastern state last week.
Addressing a poll rally in West Bengal's Tamluk, a stronghold of Banerjee's Trinamool Congress, Modi said: "I called her two times but she didn't receive my calls. I was worried about West Bengal's situation. But Mamata Didi is not concerned about the state."
Officials of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Sunday said attempts were made to contact the West Bengal Chief Minister, who was out for campaigning. However, Banerjee didn't call back, said PMO.
Countering Modi from a rally in Gopiballvpur, Banerjee said: "He had never visited the state earlier.....He is an expiry Prime Minister so he has no right to take action."
Once again, Modi, who is the BJP's main campaigner, termed the Trinamool chief as "speed breaker Didi", who has been alleged by the saffron leader to halt developmental works undertaken by the Centre.
The Prime Minister had also contacted Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha where cyclone Fani made its landfall on Friday morning.
On Monday, Modi along with Patnaik conducted an aerial survey of the areas affected by Fani.
