Mamata Banerjee spreading lies over NRC issue: Amit Shah in West Bengal

Alipurduar, Mar 29 (IBNS): Bringing back the National Register of Citizens (NRC) issue in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Friday said Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is spreading lies by stating the refugees will be forced to leave the country once the bill will be passed.

Addressing his Lok Sabha poll campaign in Alipurduar, where election will be held on Apr 11, Shah said: "Mamata didi is spreading lies stating that refugees will be forced to leave India. Let me assure refugees belonging to Sikh, Budhha and Hindu religion that they will not be removed and are safe here."

Earlier, West Bengal BJP chief Dilip Ghosh had said NRC will also be implemented in the state prompting Mamata to counter saying, "We won't allow NRC here. Let them (BJP) touch the state (with a warning)."

"Mamata Banerjee is thinking she will win this time with the refugees. But this won't happen now. Once BJP returns to power, all illegal immigrants will be thrown out of the state," Shah said escalating his attack on the Chief Minister whose party presently has 34 Lok Sabha MPs.

Also Shah brought back the Panchayat violence issue and stated people of the state will exercise their voting rights in the 2019 General Election.

Hitting out at Trinamool and Left in the same line, the BJP national president said: "Gone are the days when TMC and Communists prevented people from voting. BJP karyakartas will ensure that people are able to exercise their right to vote."

During the West Bengal panchayat election in 2018, opposition parties had alleged that their candidates were not allowed to file nominations by the ruling party.

About 34 per cent of the panchayat seats went uncontested in the eastern state with the TMC emerging as the winner in majority of polled seats.

The BJP, which had won two Lok Sabha seats from West Bengal in 2014, is eyeing to gain big from the state.

Shah on Friday once again claimed the saffron outfit will win 23 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in Mamata's home turf.
