Kolkata/IBNS: In a support to her colleagues, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has rushed to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office after two of her top ministers in her new cabinet and a heavyweight lawmaker were arrested by the federal probe agency.

The CBI has arrested West Bengal Ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra and former Kolkata Mayor Sovan Chatterjee.

Sovan, a former TMC member, had joined and also left the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In an unprecedented scene, Banerjee reached the CBI office in Nizam Palace at AJC Bose Road little before 11 am.

Refusing to make any comment on the arrest, the Chief Minister took the stairs and entered into the office.

Alleging vendetta politics, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh told a local channel, "They have nakedly jumped into a vendetta politics to show their political power after losing the elections here."

The TMC is questioning why two TMC-turned BJP leaders, Mukul Roy and Suvendu Adhikari, who are also accused in the case, have not been arrested.

The same question has been raised by Narada News editor Mathew Samuel who said, "I came to know that some of the senior TMC ministers, Subrata Mukherjee and Bobby (Firhad) Hakim, have been arrested in Narada case. This is the long waited justice... My question is what happened to Suvendu Adhikari? What happened to him?

"He also received a money from me and it was recorded and handed over to CBI. What happened to him? Justice have to go to everyone in same manner."

Meanwhile, TMC supporters have taken to streets and started protesting against the arrests made by the CBI, breaking the norms of the anti-Covid-19 lockdown.

West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar earlier sanctioned CBI investigations against the veteran politicians.

News portal Narada News released several sting operation footage, where TMC's leaders, ministers, MPs and MLAs were seen allegedly taking bribes.
