New Delhi/IBNS: As the Centre allowed the resumption of metro services from the next month as a part of its Unlock 4 plan, the Delhi Metro announced its new guidelines necessitating the use of masks and smart cards.

The Delhi Metro will resume its services from September 7 after a gap of six months.

Releasing a new set of guidelines on Sunday, the Delhi Metro stated that there will be a complete ban on tokens for train rides.

There will also be a limited number of passengers allowed in every coach. However, the figure has not yet been decided.

The central government, which on Saturday issued the guidelines for Unlock 4, has permitted the resumption of metro services from Sept 7 giving a sigh of relief to lakhs of office-goers in several major cities of the country.

Following the announcement, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation tweeted: "As per the latest guidelines, Delhi Metro will be resuming its services for public from 7 September 2020 onwards in a calibrated manner. Details on the Metro functioning & its usage will be shared once the detailed SOP on Metros is issued by MoHUA. #MetroBackOnTrack."

The Centre also allowed social events with a maximum of 100 people from Sept 21 while the lockdown in all containment zones (where Covid-19 cases are reported) have been extended till 30th of the same month.

School, colleges, swimming pools, cinema halls will remain shut but open-air theatres have been allowed to resume from Sept 21.
