Meghalaya : Mukul Sangma to vacate Ampati, daughter Miani D Shira sets to contest

Shillong, Mar 9 (IBNS): Former Chief Minister of Meghalaya Dr Mukul Sangma will soon be adding another family member in the  political sphere.

After wife, Mukul Sangma has now set to add another family member in politics with his daughter is all set to contest by-election.

According to the reports, Mukul Sangma, who had won two seats Ampati and Songsak in the recent assembly polls in the state, will give up the Ampati constituency for making way for his daughter Miani D Shira to enter in politics.

Sources said that the former Chief Minister of Meghalaya will tender his resignation as MLA of Ampati constituency and his daughter will contest the by-election from the constituency.

Reports also said that, the new Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma will contest from the constituency which Mukul Sangma will quit.

Conrad Sangma will have to get elected as an MLA to continue his tenure as the Meghalaya CM.

Mukul Sangma had retained his traditional Ampati seat by defeating BJP candidate Bakul Chandra Hajong by 8104 votes and won the constituency as a MLA consecutively for the sixth term.

Earlier, Mukul Sangma’s wife Dikkanchi D Shira had contested in the 2013 assembly polls from Mahendraganj constituency in South West Garo Hills district and elected to the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

Dikkanchi D Shira also contested against present CM Conrad Sangma in by-election of Tura parliamentary constituency in 2016, but lost.
