Meghalaya: Women voters outnumber men in Sohiong by-elections
Guwahati/IBNS: In by-elections for the Sohiong assembly constituency in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills District Saturday, a significant number of voters turned out to participate in the democratic process.
The polls were conducted under the strict supervision of the Chief Electoral Officer, K R Kharkongor, reported Guwahati Plus.
Both young and old voters were spotted eagerly participating in the electoral process, donning their "early voter" and "18+ voter" medals.
Women voters, in particular, outnumbered their male counterparts, displaying their keenness to exercise their right to vote.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, took to Twitter to highlight the impressive turnout of women voters, stating "Women power. In Sohiong, women voters outnumber men, seen here, turning up in large numbers to cast their votes @ECISVEEP @SpokespersonECI @PIBShillong."

In addition to the high voter turnout, the "cast a vote, plant a tree" initiative was implemented in model polling stations, encouraging citizens to be environmentally conscious.
It is noteworthy that Sohiong is one of the 55 seats reserved for the Scheduled Tribes (ST) out of the total 60 seats in the Meghalaya legislative assembly.
