Model Sonika Chauhan's death: Actor Vikram Chatterjee granted conditional bail
Vikram Chatterjee is in judicial custody and will be released from Presidency Jail on Thursday.
Earlier on July 7 midnight, actor Vikram Chatterjee was arrested from southern Kolkata's Kasba area in connection with Sonika Chauhan's death.
Last week, the Kolkata Police filed a charge sheet against the actor before the same court.
According to reports, Vikram has been charged under several IPC sections, including 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 279 (rash driving), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act of endangering life) and 427 (committing mischief), and section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act (Driving by a drunken person or by a person under the influence of drugs) in the charge sheet.
On Apr 29, Sonika Chauhan was killed and Chatterjee was seriously injured after their speeding sedan, which was being driven by Chatterjee that day, lost its control and crashed into a pavement near Lake Mall in south Kolkata's Rash Behari Avenue area.
Chatterjee in the initial stages of probe, denied to be in the drunken state when the accident happened. Though medical reports did not clarify whether he was drunk or not, it was proved that the car was driven at a very high speed.
However, Chatterjee later confessed that he had consumed some alcohol on the accident night.
The arrested actor is a popular face on Bengali television as he was playing a lead role in one of the daily soaps. Vikram also acted in several Bengali films.
