Modi mocks Rahul Gandhi over 'Kumbharam' goof-up

Jaipur, Dec 5 (IBNS): On the last day of campaign for Rajasthan polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday mocked Congress chief Rahul Gandhi over his goof-up in pronouncing the name of 'Kumbharam Lift Yojana' at a rally.

Rahul, while addressing a rally in the poll-bound state, mispronounced 'Kumbharam Lift Yojana' as 'Kumbhakarna Lift Yojana', giving the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a chance to take a dig at the Congress president.

Modi, while addressing a rally in Rajasthan, said: "Naamdar, who doesn't know the difference between his party's Jat leader Kumbharam and Kumbhakarna, will only sleep after coming to power."

"I challenge him to utter the names of Congress presidents chronologically without the help of any papers."

Union minister and BJP leader Piyush Goyal took to Twitter to share a video where Rahul could be seen making a goof-up.

"Kumbhakarna Lift Yojana? Kumbhakarna used to sleep only six months but Congress slept for 60 years and deprived the country of development," Goyal said.

Chaudhari Kumbharam Arya, who was a farmers' leader, served as the Lok Sabha MP from 1980 to 1984. He was elected from Rajasthan's Sikar constituency.

Arya also served as the Rajya Sabha MP and Rajasthan Assembly member during his lifetime.

Kumbhakarna, on the other hand, was a fictional character from epic Ramayana. He slept for six months after asking for 'Nidraasana' (sleep) instead of 'Indraasana' (seat of Indra) as a boon from creator god Brahma.
