Mau, May 16 (UNI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday questioned as to why Bahujan Samajwadi Party and Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh were supporting All India Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee when the people of Poorvanchal were being targeted by the Trinamool goons.
Addressing an election meeting here ahead of the last lap of Lok Sabha polls, Modi said: "It is unfortunate, BSP and SP leaders are supporting a non-democratic government of West Bengal where TMC goons are unleashing atrocities on people of Poorvanchal. It is the way these Mahamilavati parties are trying to treat their caste as a slave for them without having any concern of their well being."
"I had thought the way Mamata didi is targeting UP-Bihar Poorvanchal people, calling them outsiders for her politics, Behen Mayawati will surely slam Mamata didi, but this did not happen and instead, she had criticised us and EC for her vested political purpose," the Prime Minister said.
Mr Modi said: "I am again going to West Bengal today to address two meetings in Mahurapur and Dumdum Lok Sabha constituencies but I am apprehensive whether Didi will allow me to address the rallies as the TMC goons tried their level best to disrupt my meetings at West Midnapur, Kuchbihar and Thakurnagar in the past."
"Some months back during my rally in West Medinipur, TMC goons indulged in hooliganism. After this in Thakurnagar, the situation was such that I had to cut short my speech and was forced to leave the stage," he said.
Mr Modi condemned the damaging of the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar in Kolkata during the violence in BJP president Amit Shah's roadshow.
"We saw hooliganism by TMC workers again during bhai Amit Shah's roadshow in Kolkata. They vandalised Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar's statue. We are committed to Vidyasagar's vision and will install his grand statue of 'Asthdhatu' at the same spot," he said.
The PM said that Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar is a person known for his contribution to the society and the uplift of the women.
