Modi reaches out to farmers in Punjab

Pathankot, Apr 25 (IBNS): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Friday addressed rallies at Pathankot and Hoshiarpur in Punjab and appealed to the people to support the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal alliance for the state's better future and the nation's progress.
Modi spoke of local issues, from farmers’ concerns to narco-terrorism, and claimed that under the BJP-SAD alliance, the state will witness renewed growth and better living standard.

Modi stated how India had never witnessed a government as corrupt and ineffective as the current central government.

The Gujarat CM said that the Congress’ doings got reflected that their mantra was not of ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, but rather of ‘Mar Jawan, Mar Kisan.’

He emphasized on the need to bring in technological upgradations in agriculture so as to equip the farmers for better productivity.

Speaking on how the concern of ‘narco terrorism’ and fake currency had been afflicting the people and the economy, Modi called for the need to secure the borders and stop such misdoings.

He also spoke of the Congress’ one-point programme which only focused on stopping Modi from becoming the PM, rather than addressing issues of national importance.

Speaking further on the central government’s unconcern for the people, Modi said that this was clearly reflected in the fact that inspite of having lived in Hoshiarpur while pursuing his studies, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had never bothered to address local issues.

He also cited how the recently released book ‘The Accidental Prime Minister’ clearly put forth the autocratic hierarchy in the Prime Minister’s Office, wherein the Mother-Son duo took decisions of national importance, rather than the PM himself.

In Ludhiana, Modi spoke of laying due emphasis on local industries and promoting skill development. He shared his vision of developing skill (empowerment), scale (large scale) and speed (quick speed), and thereby ensuring overall development.

He  also called for the need to focus on zero-defect manufacturing, so as to give an edge to the local manufacturing and industrial spectrum.

“If we have to compete with China we need to work on manufacturing and skill development & ensure cities like Ludhiana grow. I want Ludhiana to become the pride of India. We will focus on 0 Defect manufacturing so that ‘Made in India’ brand shines,” said Modi.
