Modi to visit the ailing RK Mission head, who rejected him for monk

Kolkata, May 4 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit on Saturday next Swami Athmasthananda Maharaj, the head of the Ramakrishna Mission Math and Mission, who has been keeping an indifferent health for some time.

"Modiji treats him as his guru and wants to meet him since our Maharaj has grown very old and is in hospital for a long time. When both of them were in Rajkot, Modi used to go to him to seek guidance," media reports quoted  Subirananda Maharaj," assistant secretary of the Math on Monday.

The supreme monk of the order is 97-year-old.

The PM had received an invitation from  Swami Atmasthananda  to visit the organisation's global headquarters in Belur Math when he met the monk last time in Guajat in 2013.

As a young boy Modi had come to Belur Math  seeking to be a monk. But his request was rejected as he was underage.

He made two more attempts later, the last in Rajkot, where he met Swami Atmasthanand, who then headed the Ramakrishna centre there.

In the letter, Swami Atmasthanand had addressed the PM as  'Narendra Bhai' and said, "I am eagerly looking forward to your visit to Belur Math as the Prime Minister of India."

The PM  will meet the Swami at the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratishthan where he is being treated since February 21.

Modi will also visit Belur Math, which he visited last time in 2013.
