Modi's demonetisation a war on the poor to benefit the rich : Rahul Gandhi

Dadri, Uttar Pradesh, Dec 13 (IBNS) : Stepping up his attack on the Narendra Modi Government for note ban, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that the Prime Minister has waged a war on the poor to benefit the rich with his demonetisation drive, reports said.

Gandhi was addressing a rally of farmers and traders at a wholesale market at Dadri in Uttar Pradesh.

"Modi has kept the people's money deposited in banks to repay the loans of Rs. eight lakh crore taken by 50 rich people," he said, adding the Government wants to clear off this NPA with the hard earned money of the people and that is why withdrawal limit has been put.

"Modi talks about making society cashless, but the society has already become cashless because of the move," he said.

"I don't see any rich or black money holders in the queue. They are withdrawing money using the backdoor," the Congress Vice President said.

Gandhi also said that the Prime Minister's narrative in defence of black money has repeatedly changed over time.

"First it was to check black money, it was terrorism and now it is about making society cashless," he said.
