More COVID-19 testing facilities in UP: CM Yogi Adityanath

Lucknow/UNI: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday announced the increasing COVID-19 testing facilities in the state, by adding 14 more testing labs and setting up sample collection centres at all 75 district hospitals.

While addressing the media here, Yogi assured that the government has taken all steps to secure the life of 23 crore people of the state and have launched the biggest campaign to prevent the impact of Novel Coronavirus in the state.

Expressing concern on the rising number of positive cases in the state in the past five days, the Chief Minister said that among the cases, more than 60 per cent were those, who attended the religious conference, organised by Tabligli Jamaat at Markaz Nizamuddin in New Delhi, last month.

He said that when the first case of COVID-19 was detected in the country, there was no testing lab in the state, but now, 10 labs are fully functional.

'We will set up labs in 14 medical colleges in the state, which includes at Gonda, Mirzapur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Varanasi and Aligarh, where Level-3 labs would come up," he said, adding that a committee under the Principal Secretary, Medical Health has been set up to expedite the purchase of equipment and other formalities at the earliest.

Besides, the Chief Minister said that sample collection centres of COVID-19 would be set up at all the district hospitals.

The BJP government in the state took the decision, in the wake of the demand from Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav to increase COVID-19 tests in the state, which is the only way find out the positive cases and eradicate the virus.

Meanwhile, Adityanath has appealed to the people to donate generously in the UP Covid Care Fund.

'We are receiving good support for the Covid Care Fund, whose money would be used to increase medical facilities at L1,L2 and L3 Covid Hospitals in the state, besides purchasing PPE kits, N95 mask, Thermal analyser and ventilators," he said.

On the other hand, the Chief Minister has directed it's Team-11 members, comprising senior state officials, to ensure that there is no food shortage in the state and that the lockdown is enforced strictly.
