Lucknow, Dec 30 (IBNS): The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Friday expelled leader Ram Gopal Yadav and UP Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav from the party for six years.

The announcement was made by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav here.

Addressing a press conference, he said: "Ram Gopal Yadav has been suspended from the party for six years for indiscipline."

He said Ram Gopal Yadav has weakened the party from within.

Mulayam Singh Yadav said the move was taken to save the party.

"We need to save the party. We will not allow to shatter the party," the SP chief said.

"We have removed both the leaders for six years," he said.

Troubles grew within the Samajwadi Party as party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav issued a  show-cause notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and leader  Akhilesh Yadav, media reports said.

According to reports, the notice asked why disciplinary action should not be taken against the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh.

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav had earlier published the list of 325 party candidates for the UP assembly elections.

According to reports, it left out 53 current lawmakers of the Samajwadi Party, including close aides of the Chief Minister.

Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday named parallel list of 235 candidates for the UP Assembly polls.
