My father should have done it long ago: Sonakshi on Shatrughan Sinha's quitting BJP

Mumbai, Mar 30 (IBNS): Reacting to her actor-turned politician father Shatrughan Sinha's resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), actress Sonakshi Sinha said the former saffron leader should have taken the step much before.

"I think it was the time for him to move on. I think he has done it a bit too late. He should have done it long back," Sonakshi said.

The actress also feels her father and BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani were not given the due respect by the saffron outfit.

She said: "From being in the party since the time of JP Nayaran ji, Atal ji and LK Advani ji, my father has a lot of respect in the party. I think the entire group which were right from the beginning has not given the kind of respect that they deserve."

Shatrughan, who has been denied ticket by BJP for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, is set to join Congress on Apr 6. He has already met Congress chief Rahul Gandhi.

Regarding her joining in the new party, Sonakshi said: "It is important to bring about a change if one is not happy somewhere with the way things are going on. He did that. I hope he won't feel suppressed in this new organisation."

Speculation of Shatrughan joining the Congress has been rife after he was dropped for the Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat, from where he is a sitting MP, by the BJP.

The party has named Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad as its nominee.

Shatrughan, who had criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his own party on a number of issues, even had attended West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's anti-BJP rally in Kolkata on Jan 19.
