My supporters will teach the govt a lesson in next polls: Mohammad Shahabuddin

Patna, Sept 30 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): RJD politician Mohammad Shahabuddin on Friday said his supporters would serve a befitting reply to the ruling Nitish Kumar government in the next elections.

“My supporters will reply (to the government) in the next elections,” Shahabuddin told newsmen shortly before surrendering in the local district civil court in Siwan after his bail was cancelled by the Supreme Court.

He refused to comment over the court’s order to cancel his bail saying “I respect the court’s order”.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court cancelled the bail of controversial Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) politician Mohammad Shahabuddin..

“Take him into custody immediately,” the court told the Bihar government on Friday.

The top court gave the order after hearing a petition filed by a man, whose three sons were allegedly killed on Shahabuddin’s orders. The Bihar government too had moved the SC, challenging his bail and described him as a “threat to the society”.

Shahabuddin, a former lawmaker from Lalu Prasad’s RJD, is accused in over 50 criminal cases.

The don-turned-politician had walked out of jail on September 10 after 11 years of incarceration following the bail granted by the Patna High Court.

RJD is a key coalition partner in Bihar’s ruling grand alliance that also includes Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal-United.

The opposition had accused the Chief Minister of indirectly helping Shahabuddin secure bail from the court under pressure from the RJD.

Denying the allegation, the Bihar government later moved the Supreme Court to challenge the bail granted by the High Court.

However, the court reprimanded it, asking whether it was in slumber till the politician got bail.
