NABARD sanctions Rs 400.64 Cr for infra boost in J&K

Jammu/UNI:  National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned a sum of Rs 400.64 crore to the UT of Jammu and Kashmir for the current financial year specifically for boosting rural infrastructure.

An amount of Rs 143.66 crore has been sanctioned for implementation of 38 water supply schemes.

This sanction includes augmentation of 27 existing water supply schemes and construction of 11 new water supply schemes.

These water supply schemes aim to provide safe and potable drinking water to rural households.

These schemes aim to benefit 354,117 people across 86 villages in 17 districts of the UT.

An amount of Rs 47.11 crore has been sanctioned towards improving the Animal and Sheep Husbandry sectors.

This includes construction of a Sheep Breeding Farm and Land Development for fodder cultivation at Khimber, Srinagar and construction of Cattle Breeding Farm at Chatha Jammu.

The infrastructure once created will benefit the livestock farmers of around 350 villages of the UT, said the official Spokesman of NABARD.

He also pointed out that NABARD had also sanctioned Rs 209.87 crore for construction of 82 rural roads and three bridges earlier this year.

"Roads measuring 291 kms is planned to be constructed which would benefit a total of 9.15 lakh people in 19 districts of Jammu and Kashimir" he declared and adding that the construction of roads and bridges would provide all weather improved connectivity to 461 remote villages.

This funding is part of the NABARD’s ‘Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) – Trench XXV’ which aims at augmenting rural infrastructure explained the spokesperson.
