Guwahati, May 31 (IBNS) : A hardcore militant belonging to NDFB(S) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Assam's Kokrajhar district on Saturday night, police said on Sunday.

During the gun battle, a Platoon Commander of the outfit was narrowly escaped.

BTAD IGP Dr. LR Bisnoi said that, based on intelligence input, Assam police commando and CRPF's Cobra personnel had jointly launched operation at Ripu Reserve forest in Kokrajhar district on Saturday night.

"A hardcore militant of the outfit killed during the gun battle," the top police official said.

The slain militant was identified as Khwmthe alias Dada and security personnel recovered a 7.65mm pistol, one magazine, four rounds ammunition, two 36-HE hand grenades in possession from him.

In past five months at least 13 militants of the outfit group were killed and over 300 cadres and linkmen nabbed by security forces in the state.
