Kathmandu/IBNS: Nepal has invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the first Sagarmatha Sambaad talks to discuss the global, regional and national issues, Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said on Friday, media reported.
The first edition of Sagarmatha Sambad themed "Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity" will be held from Feb 2 to 4.
The invitation has been already sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's office and confirmation is awaited, Gyawali said.
Heads of all the SAARC nations have been sent the invitation for the dialogue, including Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, and Nepal would be happy to host them so that they can hold discussions on challenges facing the region, he added.
The dialogue has been named after the world's highest peak Sagarmatha [Mt Everest] which also means friendship, he said.
The Sambaad or the dialogue is aimed at creating a consensus among the south Asian leaders on the climate crisis and encourage them to use their political will power to tackle the negative impacts of climate change, he added.
The member states of SAARC are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
