NIA arrests wanted Manipuri militant involved in Chandel army ambush
Guwahati, Jan 12 (IBNS): In a major breakthrough in Manipur’s Chandel Army ambush case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested accused Naorem Premkanta Singh.
The joint operation, launched by the NIA and Manipur Police (CDO, Imphal-East), has led to the arrest of the militant.
Security personnel have recovered a pistol and five live rounds from his possession.
The accused militant was found involved in NIA case RC-03/2015/NIA/Guwahati related to an ambush on Army personnel at Chandel Distt, Manipur on June 4, 2015, in which 18 army personnel were killed.
He belongs to a banned terror organisation namely Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) and had participated in the ambush on Army personnel of 6th Dogra Battalion.
The arrested militant has been absconding since the ambush took place.
During the investigation, a reward of Rs 2 lakh was announced by the NIA on any information leading to his arrest.
The Special NIA Court, Imphal has also issued a non-bailable warrant of arrest.
The Court has also announced him a proclaimed offender.
