Nigeria releases 11 Indian prisoners confirms Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, July 4 (IBNS): External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Sunday confirmed the release of 11 jailed Indians from a Nigerian prison.
Tweeted Left MP Ritabrata Banerjee, "The 11 Indians including JogenDas jailed in Nigeria have been released!!special thanks 2 @SushmaSwaraj who took up d cause!! Thanks madam!!" 
 
In response to Banerjee's tweet, Swaraj thanked the Indian High Commissioner in Nigeria for the release of the prisoners.
 
She said, "I appreciate the efforts of our High Commissioner in Nigeria Shri B.N.Reddy for expediting their repatriation."
 
The prisoners were employees of a Merchant Navy firm, whose ship got stuck in Nigeria. The crew was arrested and incarcerated in 2014 for violating international laws.
