Nitish takes oath, returns as Bihar CM
Amid the presence of several political leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Assam CM Tarun Gogoi, Kumar and 22 ministers took oath at the Raj Bhavan in Patna.
The oath-taking ceremony was administered by Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi.
The ministers, who took oath on Sunday, were all part of the former CM Jitan Ram Manjhi's government. They had all resigned to express their solidarity with Kumar.
Kumar, who had earlier served as the CM of the state three times, will need to prove his majority in a floor test in the state Assembly on Mar 16.
Manjhi on Friday stepped down ahead of a confidence vote in the state assembly that appeared necessary to prove his majority over the loyalists of Kumar, whose bid to come back as CM divided the ruling Janata Dal (U).
Kumar had earlier apologized to the people of Bihar for quitting the post of Chief Minister in the aftermath of the drubbing of his party in the Lok Sabha polls last year.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has slammed Kumar as he took oath as the CM of Bihar and said 'jugle raj' will continue in the state.
"Nitish takes oath with the support of Laloo ji. Jungle Raj-2 continues in Bihar," BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain tweeted.
