No confirmation that Jaish leader detained: India
Islamabad, Jan 13 (IBNS): India on Wednesday said that Pakistan is yet to confirm that Maulana Masood Azhar, leader of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, has been detained by the neighbouring country in connection with the attack on Pathankot air base in India, media reports said.
"There has been no official confirmation of the Jaish chief's arrest," foreign ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup told media on Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is briefing Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue.
Pakistan earlier in the evening said that it arrested leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group Maulana Masood Azhar.
The neighbouring country earlier in the day said it had arrested several members of the Jaish-e-Mohammad militant group, which is suspected of carrying out the Pathankot attack earlier this month.
The Pakistan prime minister's office said in a statement that the government had made "considerable progress" in investigating the attack, and it wanted to send a team of special investigators to the Pathankot air base in India.
"Based on the initial investigations in Pakistan, and the information provided, several individuals belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad, have been apprehended," the office of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said as reported by Geo News.
It said the offices of the organization have been sealed.
India has alleged that the January 2 terror attack on the Pathankot air base was orchestrated by Jaish, and has handed over proof that the terrorists were in touch with handlers in Pakistan before the attack.
Seven Indian military personnel were martyred in the attack by a band of six terrorists, who had crossed over to India from Pakistan. All the terrorists were, however, eliminated after a three-day battle.
