No criminal proceedings against Priya Prakash over folk song, says SC
New Delhi, Feb 21 (IBNS): The Supreme Court on Wednesday put on hold the First Information Report (FIR) against internet sensation Priya Prakash Varrier and his director over the picturisation of a folk song in the movie, media reports said.
The Supreme Court has ruled there will be no criminal proceedings against Priya and her director.
Priya, who is one of the lead characters of the Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love, was seen winking at a boy while song Manikya Malaraya Poovi was played in the romantic scene.
A group of Muslims in Hyderabad has lodged a complaint with the police against her expressions in the popular song from the film Odu Adaar Love.
The complaint was lodged with the Falaknuma police.
According to reports, the complainants have claimed that the picturisation of the song is objectionable because its lyrics are linked to Prophet Mohammed's life.
They said the lyrics have hurt the sentiments of the Muslim community.
Priya in her petition, which was filed against the FIR on Monday, stated the song praises the love between Prophet Mohammed and his wife Khadeeja and the complainants misunderstood it.
The sweet video, where a girl, who is none other than Priya, could be seen winking at a boy, exchanging unsaid love messages, started treading across all social media platforms in India.
Oru Adaar Love will make Priya's acting debut in south Indian movies.
In fact, she is one of the few celebrities in the world who has got more than 600k followers in just 24 hours. She is currently having 4.5 millions followers on Instagram.
Her account has now been verified too by Instagram.
