No one can be forced to get vaccinated: Supreme Court
New Delhi/IBNS: No individual can be forced to get vaccinated, the Supreme Court said in a ruling Monday.
The top court added that the "current vaccine policy can't be said to be unreasonable".
"Bodily integrity is protected under the law and nobody can be forced to be vaccinated,' said the top court as quoted by NDTV.
However, the court asserted that certain limitations can be imposed on individuals in the interest of community health.
"Till infection numbers are low we suggest that no restriction is imposed on individuals on access to public places, services and resources. Recall the same if already done," the court added.
The court, which was a hearing a petition objecting mandatory vaccination, directed the Centre to publish reports on adverse effects of vaccines on individuals and doctors.
The petition was filed stating mandatory vaccination to avail benefits or services is a violation of citizens' rights.
According to the data provided by the Union Health Ministry, 189.23 crore anti-Covid vaccine doses have so far been administered in the country under the national vaccination drive.
India Monday reported 3,157 fresh Covid cases while the toll went up by 26 in the last 24 hours, the ministry said.
