No other country has so much faith in democracy like India: PM Modi after Bihar win

New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers on Wednesday after the party's victory at the Bihar elections and thanked the people of India for participating in the democratic process.

"I don't just want to thank the people for supporting us, but for participating in the democratic process. For coming out and doing their bit. The elections that happen in India are unparalleled in the entire world," Modi said during his address to BJP workers at the party's headquarters in Delhi.

In a highly contentious and nail-biting vote count which went on for more than 15 hours on Tuesday, the NDA (led by BJP and Nitish Kumar's JD-U) managed to bag 125 seats in the Bihar Assembly elections, two more than the halfway mark, as opposed to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-led Mahagathbandhan's 110 seats.

While the JD(U) could win only 43 seats, it was BJP's 74 seats along with a few from smaller allies that took the alliance to the majority mark.

Thanking the Election Commission, media and the BJP workers, Modi said, "The election might have been fought for few seats but the entire country stayed glued to television, social media and the Election Commission website from morning to night for the results to be declared. The way people of India have faith in democracy is unparalleled in the entire world," he said.

The Prime Minister said people of India are sending this message clearly through elections that those who think of development will only get chance to serve the county.

"The people of India clearly stated that the only point of debate during elections would be development in the 21st century India. They are asking every other party to come to this plank and showing them that these are the real issues," the PM said.

Modi said the election results reflected the manner in which the NDA government fought the pandemic since March.

"The way we've fought this pandemic from Janta Curfew till today, has been reflected in these results. Every life saved from COVID is a success story for India," he noted.

Modi said the BJP has a large group of silent voters who are voting them to power repeatedly.

"The women, the Nari Shakti of our country are the silent voters for us. From rural to urban, women have become the largest group of silent voters for us," he said to the BJP workers who turned out in strengths to celebrate the party's victory.
