No problems with Mayawati, Akhilesh, Mamata but Cong has to be banished: Modi

Nizamabad, Nov 28 (IBNS): In a dramatic shift in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s political rhetoric, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday played soft with leaders like Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and Mamata Banerjee but hit out at the Congress saying it has to be banished from the country forever, media reports said.

Modi, who was campaigning for his party in Nizamabad city of poll-bound Telangana, said Uttar Pradesh has no problems with Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati or Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav. Both Mayawati and Akhilesh are the former Chief Ministers of the state.

Likewise, Modi said, West Bengal has no problems with either Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and current Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee or the Left, which ruled the eastern state for 34 years.

Modi's comment has assumed significance particularly at a time talks of grand alliance are going around in the country. All three leaders- Mayawati, Akhilesh and Mamata- are strong opponents of Modi and the BJP.

While Mayawati is still keeping other parties in guess work, Mamata and Akhilesh are strong proponents of a collective Opposition to defeat the BJP in 2019 General Elections, which will be held in few months' time.

In recent by-polls in Uttar Pradesh, a united Opposition had eventually did upset the saffron party.

Going back to early 2017, it is the same BJP which had uprooted the Akhilesh government in Uttar Pradesh by making SP-Congress alliance incur crushing defeat. Mayawati was reduced to miserable position as she could manage to win just 19 seats.

However, the BJP, though it is swiftly emerging as the principal opposition party in West Bengal, is still far behind the TMC's electoral success in recent times.
