Old residential building collapses in Kolkata, 1 killed

Kolkata, Sept 16 (IBNS): A teenager was killed after a portion of an old residential building collapsed at Barrackpore Trunk (B.T.) Road near Tala Post Office in north Kolkata on the wee hours of Saturday, reports said.

According to reports, ceiling of the one-storey building, which had been marked as 'hazardous' by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), suddenly collapsed.

Locals had started rescue operation and later police, fire and emergency services officials and Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel joined the efforts.

After being rescued, the girl was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.

According to local police, the deceased has been identified as Puja Kumari Gupta.

Earlier on Sept 5, another old multi-storey residential building collapsed in Kolkata's Burrabazar area, killing three of a same family.
